James Gwee Conducts YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS Workshop for Teenagers with Grab Your Audience Team on 12 & 13 September 2009.
The whole team had been eagerly anticipating this event. This was the first intake and more than 50 teenagers had enrolled for the 2 days workshop.
The objective of the workshop was simple : To teach the teenagers to be more responsible towards money. For example, whenever they get their pocket money from their parents, instead of only thinking “What can I buy with this money?” (In other words, “How can I FINISH this money as soon as I can?”), teenagers who attend Young Entrepreneurs will now think “There are at least 3 things that I can do with this money - spend it, save it, or grow it”. They now become more aware that every simole decison that they make about their money has short term and long term impact. With this awareness that they have a choice, they become more responsible with their money.
Yes, their pocket money may be just a small amount, but it this the principle and the habits that we want them to form from young… So that it become natural when they are given responsible with more money.
The teenagers, ranging from 10 to 18 years old also learnt the difference between Assets and Liabilities.
The 2 days workshop was extremely fulfilling for all of us who were part of it - as trainers, as well as members of the logistic team.
What really plesantly surprised us was the level of intelligence, maturity of the children, and their incredibilty to understand, absorb and APPLY what we thought were “adult” concepts about money. They knew how to apply the different strategies of MAGNIFY or MULTIPLY to increase their income. They knew exactly when to use which. Incredible ! It was such a joy to teach them !
The 2 days were filled with activities, games, discussions - all geared to help them understand and remember ideas and concepts about money.
They even learnt how to design a simple business plan. We’ll be looking forward to watching them present their business plans in March 2010 in front of a panel. Imagine 10-18 year olds presenting their business plan to a panel of real life entrepreneurs ! Cool !
