James Gwee Inspirasikan Tips Super Selling

Menjual produk dengan cara super sering terlupakan oleh para leader maupun owner, meskipun hal itu bukan sesuatu yang mustahil. James Gwee, pembicara publik ternama di Indonesia memberikan inspirasi kepada kurang lebih 600 peserta seminar lewat topik “Super Selling and Win-win Negotiation”, yang digelar di Ball Room Grand Angkasa International Hotel Medan, Sabtu (1/8).
Menurutnya, menjual produk dengan cara super bisa dilakukan dengan menciptakan tenaga penjual (sales) yang super star, yaitu sales yang berpikiran jangka panjang, tidak puas dengan apa yang sudah dicapai, fokus pada target.“The star thinks long term, practicing and working after he has achieved the target, focuses on achieving the target,”ujarnya.
Ia banyak memberi contoh supaya jangan terlena atau tidur setelah mencapai target, layaknya sales rata-rata. Misalnya Michael Jordan, yang terus berlatih dan berlatih meskipun sudah mendapat MVP.“The star still practicing and working after he has achieved the target. The average rests because he has achieved the target,”tandasnya.
Lewat sejumlah permainan dan contoh-contoh konkrit, pada seminar bertema Zorro tersebut, James Gwee memberikan tips dan langkah-langkah menjadi sales super star. Pertama, pribadi sales harus memutuskan dirinya untuk sukses (decided to succeed). “Kalau leader memberi target, dan sales mengatakan akan berusaha, minta sales tersebut memberi jaminan capai target. Never decided the effort, but decided for the result,”ujarnya.
Kedua, membuat komitmen yang jelas (makes a commitment to give the best).Untuk mewujudkan sebuah komitmen, sales harus berupaya dengan berbagai cara untuk bisa mencapai target, misalnya mencari orang atau sosok yang bisa mendorong sales untuk lebih maju. “You have the potential for the better result. You need to push yourself, and you need someone else to push you,”tambahnya.
Menurutnya, atasan yang ‘jahat’ sangat berguna untuk kemajuan sales, karena didorong dan dipacu untuk sukses. Sedangkan atasan yang ‘baik’ tidak bagus untuk kemajuan sales, karena selalu memaklumi kinerja sales yang tidak berhasil, dan menerima sejumlah dalil yang dikemukakan sales.
Ketiga, berpikir layaknya seorang wirausaha (think like a business person). Status boleh jadi karyawan, tapi pola pikir harus entrepreneur.”Not think like an employee. If you think like an employee, you will die before begin,”jelasnya.
Keempat, Memberi lebih banyak dari apa yang diharapkan. “Jika bos Anda menetapkan target 100 unit misalnya, maka jangan 100 unit saja yang Anda hasilkan, tapi capailah diatas 100 unit. Give more than is expected of you,”tandasnya.
Kelima, belajarlah dari yang terbaik (learn from the best).Menurutnya, sales harus belajar dari sales terbaik di dunia, seperti Zig Ziglar, Jay Abraham, Joe Girard, atau orang-orang lain yang terbaik di sekeliling kita.
Sebelum menutup sesi ini, James Gwee menjelaskan sales process, yang dimulai dari leads (menyusun dan menyiapkan data pelanggan), menelepon para pelanggan, rapport (menciptakan hubungan baik dengan relasi), mempresentasikan produk dan menghadapi penolakan (presentation and objection), menutup (close) penjualan, delivery (menjamin produk diantar sampai dengan baik kepada pelanggan), service atau layanan purna jual, follow-up atau cross-sell (menjual lini produk kita yang lain kepada pelanggan yang bersangkutan).
Pada sesi kedua, James Gwee menyampaikan topik negosiasi. Menurutnya, tujuan negosiasi ada dua, yaitu mempersempit gap kepentingan satu pihak dengan pihak lain dan mengatasi kendala yang ada, membangun hubungan baik dengan pihak lain.
Ia menjelaskan, bahwa ada dua tipe negosiator, yaitu competitive negotiator dan cooperative negotiator.”Competitive negotiator menganut pola pikir harus ada yang menang dan kalah (win-lose). Sedangkan tipe cooperative negotiator, kedua pihak saling menang (win-win),”paparnya.
Ia minta para peserta, bahwa dalam bernegosiasi harus optimis, sabar, menjadi pendengar yang baik, fokus pada problem solving dan satisfaction, punya taktik. “Two objectives to achieve from negotiation, to narrow the gap and to solve the problem, the establish a relationship (trust and respect to enable further negotiation),”pungkasnya.

Everybody wants to succeed in life and at work. Most people work very hard. And yet, the reality is that most employees stay as AVERAGE employees and don’t make it to the top. In other words, they are not STARS.
Why ? What can you do to change from an average employee to become a STAR employee ?
Here are some practical tips :
1. First, realize that it’s all a matter of PERSPECTIVE and THINKING.
- It has nothing to do with talent because we see many talented people who do not succeed at work nor in life
- It has nothing to do with educational level because we also know many graduates, masters degree holders, doctorates, professors who don’t make it to the top.
- It has nothing to do with being the son of the boss because we see many rich man’s children who are not respected by their sub-ordinates.
The most important factor they way of THINKING. Change your thinking and you’ll change your life.
2. Average workers do as they are told. Their manager tells them to do something, and they’ll do it as best as they can. They manager asks them to get the report done by Thursday, and they complete the report by Thursday. They do as they are told. That’s average. That’s why many hardworking, loyal and honest employees are still categorized as average - because they do as they are told.
On the other hand, STARS do BEFORE they are told. They ANTICIPATE what their managers will need and do the work BEFORE they are asked to do the work. They are PRO-ACTIVE and they are prepared to GIVE MORE that they are expected to give. That’s why people appreciate them and consider them to be STARS. They go BEYOND the standard expectations.
3. WHY should an employee want to do MORE than is expected and to make all the extra effort to ANTICIPATE people”s needs and do BEFORE they are asked to do ? Why go through all that trouble ? The reason is that STARS have a stronger sense of purpose. They have clear goals. They want to go far in life, therefore they do EXTRA. On the other hand, most average employees just look forward to the next pay check. STARS have a different MOTIVATION than the Average workers.
4. STARS are always looking for positive opportunities to progress. They realise that one of the opportunities is to take on additional projects / tasks such as :
- Being asked to be in charge of the company newsletter,
- Being asked to co-ordinate the company’s renovation
- Being asked to co-ordinate the company’s move to another location
- Being ask to be overall in-charge of company exhibition
- Being asked to handle the press conference, etc
These are all extra work which requires extra effort, extra thinking, working extra time and the inconvenience of coordinating with colleagues — without extra compensation !! The Average employee will consider these as unnecessary and inconvenient and will tend to turn down these “extra work with no extra pay”. But the Star employee realizes that these are all opportunities to display their extra ability and to impress management. As a result of this , the STAR employee moves ahead.
Remember that in the office, opportunities to shine and show your abilities to management are often disguised as “extra work with no extra pay”.
These are some of the differences between the Average employee and the Star employee.
You will learn VERY MANY MORE practical ideas. You and your team will be TRULY MOTIVATED to become STAR employees.

How To Motivate My Employees So That They Are POSITIVE, PRO-ACTIVE and ENTHUSIASTIC ???

This is the question that I have been asked so often during my in-house training, public seminars, radio talk shows, by sms, etc.
And the good news is that we have discovered and formulated the SOLUTION.
The problem of employee motivation is complex and involves many aspects. Besides external factors such as the capability of his superior, the system in the organisation (reward, incentive, appreciation, etc) the working environment in the offce, etc the MAIN factor is, of course, the individual himself (herself).
In terms of INTERNAL factor, there r many aspects to look at :
- The way the individual THINKS
- His expectations of himself
- His expectations of others around him
- The expectations of others towards him
- His self-identity and self-worth
- His personal values
- His goals (or lack of goals), etc
Once you help the individual to be CLEAR about all the above, his life AUTOMATICALLY becomes more purposeful, and almost INSTANTLY he CHANGES and becomes a Positive, Pro-active and Enthusiastic person at work. Why? Because he now has a clearer purpose and idea of why he comes to work everyday.
However, it requires know-how, a systematic approach and experience to be able to do all these - within a very short time of one day.
We have discovered and formulated the SOLUTION.
We have conducted this training for SO MANY companies and the results have always been VERY GOOD. In fact we had already conducted the public seminar in 2008 and the response was FANTASTIC !

We spend 60% of our lives working. So if you are not having fun at work, you are wasting away 60% of your life !!
The sad thing is that most people work hard, but they actually hate going to work. Maybe they enjoy the work, but they do not enjoy the relationship that they have with their colleagues, their superiors and/or sub-ordinates. Or perhaps they have a good relationship with their office colleagues, but the work sucks. Or the targets and the responsibilities have become too heavy to handle and stress is causing work that was once enjoyable to become unbearable.
Therefore, it is crucial to make your work fun. How ?
1. It is absolutely crucial to do the work that you enjoy. Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses. Look for work that enables you to use your strengths and you are almost guaranteed to perform better. When you perform better, you will feel happier and the work itself becomes the reward. It has often been said “If you enjoy what you do, you don’t have to work a single day in your life !” . To me, this is one of the main reasons for my success. I enjoy being a trainer and a seminar speaker. Therefore when I am training or speaking in a seminar, I am really enjoying myself. When I enjoy myself, the participants enjoy themselves too. We all have a great time. I’m not actually working, I’m actually playing ! And the best part is that I get paid for having fun ! And because the participants enjoyed my training and seminar so much, they invite me back again, and I get a re-order. Simply because I’m enjoying myself. So do you enjoy your work ? If not, for your own sake and for the sake of everybody else around you, change your job ! Because if you are unhappy doing what you do :
???? You will spend 60% of your life unhappy !
???? Work becomes a burden and stressful
???? Your stress will cause you to have all kinds of health problems
???? Your stress will cause you to be not cheerful and this will affect everyone around you – your colleagues, your sub-ordinates and worst of all, your family !
2. Create fun, humor and laughter in the office. Studies have proven that humor and laughter enhances employees’ total physical, mental and spiritual wellness. There is now a realization among the more progressive companies that the work environment must improve and enhance life-work quality.
Humor and a happy & cheerful working environment is so important that it should be incorporated as a HR (human resource) function. Therefore, another term for “Human Resource” should be “Humor Resource” !
Here are some of the benefits of taking the Humor Resource Department of your company seriously :
1. Laughter is the Best Medicine. Workplaces lacking in laughter often suffer from higher work stress and employee health problems, more dissatisfied employees and poor work performance.
2. Humor Resource lightens up the work atmosphere. Of course we all have to take our work seriously. However the way that we do our work can be either unhappily or happily. Therefore it is very important to create a cheerful work environment. Allow PLAY
3. Happy employees treat their customers better. Let’s be realistic. How can you expect unhappy, stressed and frustrated employees to serve customers cheerfully ?
4. Humor Resource promotes a [positive work attitude. When a person is having fun, his work attitude automatically becomes positive. Employees with positive work attitude make less mistakes. Employees with positive work attitude are more likely to perform beyond what they are expected to do.
5. Humor Resource increases work satisfaction and loyalty. Happy employees stay longer. So the company experiences lower staff turnover, less disruption to work and customers and other business partners can build and enjoy harmonious working relationships.
6. Humor Resource enhances work relationships between colleagues, between superiors and sub-ordinates and between people of various departments. Humor makes it easier to solve and overcome common and natural inter-department work-related conflicts.
7. Humor Resource facilitates better teamwork. Only after people have developed a way to discuss and solve inter-personal problems can we hope for them to start working as a team and teamwork begin to strengthen. How can you hope for teamwork to be solid when people don’t even trust each other enough to discuss problems ?
8. Humor Resource enables a creative and innovative work environment. Only when people are happy do they want to think beyond their everyday work situations and take the effort to think of creative and innovative ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Only when the environment is cheerful do people dare to think of “strange” (creative) solutions – think outside the box.
Therefore in summary, it is crucial to understand that humor, laughter, fun is not just for fun. The truth is that fun IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS. Therefore if your work place is NO FUN, then it is highly likely that your company is LOSING A LOT MORE MONEY than is necessary.
So it is time that you should take fun seriously.
