March 27, 2009

It was a REALLY DIFFERENT seminar… Walking into the ballroom of Hotel Novotel Mangga Dua for James Gwee’s Power Seminar Series last March 23 was like going to Japan. The decoration was fully Japanese, the backdrop was a Japanese house, there were Japanese lightings, cherry pink & apple blossoms flower everywhere… Even the Academia staff were all dressed in Japanese clothings… James Gwee was also dressed like a Japanese !

250 people attended the seminar… We learnt to understand the true meaning of Win-Win by dividing an orange between 2 twin children.. Then we learnt the basics of negotiation by understanding the 5 philosophies of judo… These very practical & relevant lessons were demonstrated to us by Senior judo instructor Bpk Iwi Senjaja. He is 68 years old, but looks 50 years old. He is Indonesia’s Most Senior Motivator. The 250 participants soaked and wrote down all the improtant lessons. Then they learnt the difference between POSITION and BASIC NEEDS. They had a good Case Study to help them understand this better… Then there were so many prizes to give away… The 2nd prize was a MP3 Player and the 1st prize was a Virtu-V handphone. The seminar stretched until 6pm, but everyone went home happy.

Many had enrolled for next month’s seminar, which will be held on 23 April 2009. The topic will be Champion Leadership. In that seminar, we will learn about leadership from 5 of the world’s best CEOs. We will learn how they lead their organisation, How they are able to get their people to be innovative, competitive, how some of them turnaround their company, how they boost the profits of their company, how they face and overcome the competition,  what they did when they had to close down divisions and had to layoff (PHK) their employees… So many REAL LIFE lessons from those who have been there and gone through it… Really inspiring, and especially important in today’s difficult & challenging economic conditions…

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you to attend the Champion Leadership seminar in April, and please bring along your key managers so that they, too, understand the principles of great leadership, so that they can lead their people more effectively…

You can phone 021-6011121, or sms to 0815-1610-1100, or check our www.jamesgwee.net.

Oh yes - when you register 5 people, the 6th person attends FREE of CHARGE !

Win – win Negotiation Techniques For Sales, Purchasing & Other Situations - 17 Maret 2009

March 17, 2009

Rangkuman :

MAKE WORKING FUN!!!

March 17, 2009

We spend 60% of our lives working. So if you are not having fun at work, you are wasting away 60% of your life !!

The sad thing is that most people work hard, but they actually hate going to work. Maybe they enjoy the work, but they do not enjoy the relationship that they have with their colleagues, their superiors and/or sub-ordinates. Or perhaps they have a good relationship with their office colleagues, but the work sucks. Or the targets and the responsibilities have become too heavy to handle and stress is causing work that was once enjoyable to become unbearable.

Therefore, it is crucial to make your work fun. How ?

1. It is absolutely crucial to do the work that you enjoy. Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses. Look for work that enables you to use your strengths and you are almost guaranteed to perform better. When you perform better, you will feel happier and the work itself becomes the reward. It has often been said “If you enjoy what you do, you don’t have to work a single day in your life !” . To me, this is one of the main reasons for my success. I enjoy being a trainer and a seminar speaker. Therefore when I am training or speaking in a seminar, I am really enjoying myself. When I enjoy myself, the participants enjoy themselves too. We all have a great time. I’m not actually working, I’m actually playing ! And the best part is that I get paid for having fun ! And because the participants enjoyed my training and seminar so much, they invite me back again, and I get a re-order. Simply because I’m enjoying myself. So do you enjoy your work ? If not, for your own sake and for the sake of everybody else around you, change your job ! Because if you are unhappy doing what you do :

???? You will spend 60% of your life unhappy !

???? Work becomes a burden and stressful

???? Your stress will cause you to have all kinds of health problems

???? Your stress will cause you to be not cheerful and this will affect everyone around you – your colleagues, your sub-ordinates and worst of all, your family !

2. Create fun, humor and laughter in the office. Studies have proven that humor and laughter enhances employees’ total physical, mental and spiritual wellness. There is now a realization among the more progressive companies that the work environment must improve and enhance life-work quality.

Humor and a happy & cheerful working environment is so important that it should be incorporated as a HR (human resource) function. Therefore, another term for “Human Resource” should be “Humor Resource” !

Here are some of the benefits of taking the Humor Resource Department of your company seriously :

1. Laughter is the Best Medicine. Workplaces lacking in laughter often suffer from higher work stress and employee health problems, more dissatisfied employees and poor work performance.

2. Humor Resource lightens up the work atmosphere. Of course we all have to take our work seriously. However the way that we do our work can be either unhappily or happily. Therefore it is very important to create a cheerful work environment. Allow PLAY

3. Happy employees treat their customers better. Let’s be realistic. How can you expect unhappy, stressed and frustrated employees to serve customers cheerfully ?

4. Humor Resource promotes a [positive work attitude. When a person is having fun, his work attitude automatically becomes positive. Employees with positive work attitude make less mistakes. Employees with positive work attitude are more likely to perform beyond what they are expected to do.

5. Humor Resource increases work satisfaction and loyalty. Happy employees stay longer. So the company experiences lower staff turnover, less disruption to work and customers and other business partners can build and enjoy harmonious working relationships.

6. Humor Resource enhances work relationships between colleagues, between superiors and sub-ordinates and between people of various departments. Humor makes it easier to solve and overcome common and natural inter-department work-related conflicts.

7. Humor Resource facilitates better teamwork. Only after people have developed a way to discuss and solve inter-personal problems can we hope for them to start working as a team and teamwork begin to strengthen. How can you hope for teamwork to be solid when people don’t even trust each other enough to discuss problems ?

8. Humor Resource enables a creative and innovative work environment. Only when people are happy do they want to think beyond their everyday work situations and take the effort to think of creative and innovative ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Only when the environment is cheerful do people dare to think of “strange” (creative) solutions – think outside the box.

Therefore in summary, it is crucial to understand that humor, laughter, fun is not just for fun. The truth is that fun IS GOOD FOR BUSINESS. Therefore if your work place is NO FUN, then it is highly likely that your company is LOSING A LOT MORE MONEY than is necessary.

So it is time that you should take fun seriously.

ACADEMIA Staff Incentive Tour …

March 13, 2009

Aca Tour

Botanical Garden Botanical Garden 2

Thian Hock Keng Temple 2 Thian Hock Keng Temple 1

Newton Circle Newton Circle 2

Merlion Park rencananya menjadi kunjungan terakhir malam itu, namun Pak James Gwee mengajak seluruh peserta berjalan hingga ke Clarke Quay. Disela-sela penjelasan  Pak James Gwee tentang sejarah gedung-gedung  yang berdiri mewah dipadu dengan bangunan kuno yang dipertahankan, naluri artis para peserta tour semakin muncul, mereka tidak henti berfoto diberbagai tempat dengan berbagai gaya, “he… he… narsisnya ga ilang” ujar bu Dewi salah satu pemandu tour yang akhirnya ikutan minta difotoin.

Merlion Park

Singapore Zoo Singapore Zoo 2

Terima kasih ACADEMIA khususnya Pak James Gwee.

Memorable Seminar in Kupang !

March 7, 2009

James Gwee In KupangI had waited such a long time to have a seminar in Kupang. At last the day arrived ! We arrived at Kupang at this afternoon at 1245, Pak Mulyono Subroto, Director of Progresif was there to cheerfully welcome us. We immediately proceeded to Hotel Kristal (a pleasant 10 minutes’ drive) for the seminar. Almost 200 people were present in this 3 hours seminar organised by Progresif.

The atmosphere was very positive, everyone was cheerful and very, very receptive to learn ideas about the new “rules of the game” of the 21st century
and how to look for opportunities, how to seize opportunities and how to succeed
In the 21st century. You could see that many of them are learning new things and a whole new way of looking at things was opening right before their eyes. Participants are looking at the 21st century in a totally different point of view. They were beginning to understand how this 21st century is different for the 20th century.

Everyone was so eager to learn… During coffee break, my new book “Setiap Orang Sales Harus Baca Buku Ini” was completely SOLD OUT ! More than half the CDs that I brought along were sold and many registered to learn from the hundreds of video & audio clippingg (recordings) of my “live” seminars in www.seminarseumurhidup.com.

Throughout the seminar, everyone was so focussed that no one went to the toilet ! We went into “extra time” and still everyone stayed on ! After the seminar, we were still chatting, signing books & CDs and taking photographs…

What a happy experience… Thank you Pak Mulyono Subroto, Director of Progresif for organising event. I really look forward to return to Kupang for another seminar sometime soon !

Until then, “Change To Improve” and Walk With God !

When You Are Negotiating, Use Your P ……

March 6, 2009

Shaking hands

Many people do not realise this - in a negotiation, INFORMATION is POWER. The person who has the information has power over the person who does not.

So don’t under-estimate the power that you have in a negotiation.  All you have to do before to go to the negotiating table is to make a list of the INFORMATION that you have. After that, cross check which information :

1. You know, and he also knows
2. You know, but he doesn’t know
3. You don’t know, but he knows
4. You don’t know, and he doesn’t know

Once you make this analysis, you will immediately get an idea of how to plan your strategy for the negotiation.

From the 4 scenerios above, the most obvious advantage is (2). So, what can you do, how can you play your “cards” so that this “exclusive” information that you possess can be used as a bargaining tool, as a time-delaying too, as a tool for giving the “ultimatum”, even as a tool to establish goodwill and trust ?

How to use information as a tool to establish goodwill and trust ? It’s simple when you VOLUNTARILY offer “exclusive” information to the othe person, this immediately shows to him that you want to be “open” , co-operative, friendly and helpful. By doing this, the other side will have a more positive impression of you, and will therefore be more co-operative and trusting. Once you have established this trust, you can then start to ask for some information. The other side may now be more obloiged and willing to give you information because you have given first and he has received from you. Therefore it is now his turn to give information.

INFORMATION - It’s such a simple thing - . But when used properly and thoughtfully, it is such a POWERFUL NEGOTIATION TOOL !

Want to learn more ?

I will be sharing SO MANY Of these PRACTICAL and EASY-TO-APPLY IDEAS in my  coming public seminar entitled “Win-Win Negotiation Techniques for Sales, Purchasing and Other Situations”. This one-day seminar will be held on 25 March 2009 at Hotel Novotel Mangga Dua. Many Purchasing staff, Sales people, Sales Managers & Supervisors, Entrepreneurs, HR Managers, even University students have already registered ! That really reflects the fact that EVERYONE negotiates and EVERYONE will BENEFIT if he/she is able to  negotiate more effectively.

If you have not registered, please do so quickly because we will ONLY ACCEPT 350 participants. After that, registration will CLOSE because the ballroom cannot accomodate more than 350 participants. Please hurry OK.

The Response Surprised Me !

March 5, 2009

I wrote a short article a few days ago about our coming public seminar entitled “Win-Win Negotiation Techniques for Sales, Purchasing and Other Situations”. THE RESPONSE SURPRISED ME !

So many people phoned, sms to enquire and SO MANY have registered ! Those who registered so far are from such diverse backgrounds - Purchasing staff, Sales people, Sales Managers & Supervisors, Entrepreneurs, HR Managers, even University students ! That really reflects the fact that EVERYONE negotiates and EVERYONE will BENEFIT if he/she is able to  negotiate more effectively.

The one-day seminar will be held on 25 March 2009 at Hotel Novotel Mangga Dua - and yet companies have started to register their staff to attend - some registered 5 people, others registered 10 people, one company even registered 20 people !

Yes in DIFFICULT ECONOMIC CONDITIONS SUCH AS NOW, OUR EMPLOYEES’ ABILITY TO NEGOTIATE EFFECTIVELY is THE KEY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GETTING THE ORDER OR NOT, BETWEEN PROFIT OR LOSS, BETWEEN THE SALES PERSON’S ABILITY TO KEEP HIS JOB OR LOSE HIS JOB !

For those of you who have not registered, please do so quickly because we will ONLY ACCEPT 350 participants. After that, registration will CLOSE because the ballroom cannot accomodate more than 350 participants. Please hurry OK.

Opportunities In Uncertain Time - 3 Maret 2009

March 4, 2009

1. Lesson On Leadership.

2. Make Global Crisis Illegal.

3. Open New Branches. Jika memungkinkan maka bukalah cabang lain lagi.

Give Customer The Solution.
